May News: Real Review Top Wineries

May News: Real Review Top Wineries

The 31st Grampians Grape Escape was on earlier this month. The three-day festival celebrates the finest wine, food and music from Western Victoria. We’ve participated six times. It’s always fun to be the beautiful Grampians, reconnect with regulars, and introduce our wines to new friends. (the kids love it too!).

Some of my festival highlights:
The weather was spectacular! The Feel Good Friday music event was lots of fun. The masterclass schedule was amazing – I really enjoyed the seeing Adam and Simon Freeman (from Grampians Wine Cellar) speak on the International Influence on Wine. I spoke with a couple of wine journalists who were enjoying the festival – stay tuned for their stories.

My food highlights…the most delicious lamb toastie by Tim Bone and Quail Scotch Eggs by Mount William Station. I also took home my favourite Grampians olive oil.

Besides being hectic with festival preparation, a few other recent highlights:

  • Our ‘24 Shiraz is now in barrel….and will be for the next 12+ months;
  • We have a new varietal in the works, Mourvèdre. We love how it’s coming along, but that’s all I can say right now. More to come;
  • Rehabilitation work at our property in Eversley continue after the recent fire; and
  • Adam was on a podcast, Wine Soundtrack.

Cheers, Nancy (and Adam)

PS: Brisbane we’re coming to you! We’re participating in Urban Wine Walk on Saturday 29 June, featured by Babylon Brisbane. Learn more and get your tickets here. I look forward to showcasing our wines in Brisbane for the first time!

2024 Harvest Report

2024 Harvest Report

Harvest 2024 is done and that means Vintage 40 for Adam and Vintage 10 for SubRosa. Harvest in The Grampians this year was from late February to the beginning of May.

Adam’s 2024 harvest insights: “Forecast was for a hot, dry summer. Instead it was colder than average and wet in early summer. Then came the heat. The shiraz grapes developed lovely complexity from the cool start to the season and ripened nicely.”

Given you won’t be drinking Vintage 2024 for a while, let’s jump back to our current release wines, from 2019, and recall that harvest.

The 2019 growing season was warm and dry. A severe wind storm in November, when the vines were flowering, led to fewer grapes developing than usual. The lower than average yields resulted in complex and intense shiraz grapes. Our 2019 Shiraz wines have notes of plum, hints of star anise and supple tannins. Like to taste that?

Halliday Retiring

Halliday Retiring

James Halliday, an icon in the Australian wine industry, at the ripe age of 85 has announced his retirement. His impact on the Australian wine scene can’t be understated.

We’re honoured to have been reviewed by him during his long and illustrious career and value the depth of detail and insight he offered. We are proud to have featured in his weekly column for the Australian where he reviewed our wines. Here’s what he had to say.

Nebbiolo: “…this is a high-quality wine by any standards, complete with violets on the bouquet, sumptuous dark fruits and millimetre perfect tannins.”

Grampians Shiraz: “…balance and studied length are on another level, with vibrant red fruits, spices and feather-light tannins.”

Enjoy your retirement James!
