Powerful wine with captivating aromas of spicy dark fruit and liquorice. Medium to full bodied complex wine with elegant tannins.

  • Huon Hooke, 95 Pts: "Deep colour and aromas of fresh-turned earth, plum, spices and overtones of graphite and ironstone. The wine is intense and focused, taut and precise on the tongue. Lovely wine of real concentration and focus, drive and elegance, the stony mineral theme running throughout. A ripping shiraz, great to drink now and has a bright future. Drink: 2022–2034."

  • North-east of the Grampians wine growing region is the Pyrenees mountain range. Malakoff Estate Vineyard is located at the southern end of the township of Landsborough. Shiraz vines were planted in 1998. At an altitude of approximately 300m above sea level, the soils are friable with high amounts of ironstone and quartz scattered throughout. Vines grow in warm conditions surrounded by the Estate’s eucalyptus trees.

  • 100% Pyrenees Shiraz. Hand picked and plunged. Some whole bunch fermentation. 16 months in French oak. No fining. Two years in bottle pre-release. Vegan.

  • Enjoy with friends and rich red meat dishes including beef bourguignon or steak on the BBQ.

Adam's Notes

A warm and dry growing season and severe wind during flowering led to lower than normal fruit set. The Pyrenees shiraz grapes were complex and intense. I decided to include some whole bunches during fermentation to enhance the depth of this wine. Fruit from the Pyrenees is generally richer than the Grampians. This wine should be decanted if enjoyed young. I recommend laying it down for five of more years. Great with steak or duck.
