  • James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion. 95 Pts. From the Malakoff Estate, matured for 12 months in used French barriques. Well, well, it's like jumping into the surf thinking it's going to be very cold, only to find it's perfect. Coming to the end of the day's tasting, nebbiolo tannins can fill the mouth with fast-drying cement. This is a high quality wine by any standards, complete with violets on the bouquet, sumptuous dark fruits and millimetre perfect tannins.

  • Grown by the Johns Family at Malakoff Estate Vineyard. A dry spring and warmer-than-average conditions in October and November brought forward flowering and ripening. Cooler conditions later in the growing season slowed the vine ripening process. It was a vintage of low yields, bright fruit and excellent natural acidity, with the cooler finish allowing beautiful development of flavour and tannin.

  • 28 days on skins. 12 months in used French barriques. No fining or filtration.
