Rose petal, Turkish delight, black cherry, leafy aromas with savoury tannins. 190 dozen. Vegan.

On opening, it is a little shy, but it quickly expands with aeration to reveal beautifully nebbiolo-esque fruit that is seemingly light but then transforms to reveal character, savouriness and depth. There is mouth-watering flavour intensity on the close, housed within a light frame, that will have you coming back for more. 92 pts, Halliday Wine Companion.

  • North-east of the Grampians wine growing region is the Pyrenees mountain range. Malakoff Estate Vineyard is located at the southern end of the township of Landsborough. Nebbiolo vines were planted in 1998. At an altitude of approximately 300m above sea level, the soils are friable with high amounts of ironstone and quartz scattered throughout. Vines grow in warm conditions surrounded by the Estate’s eucalyptus trees.

  • 100% Pyrenees Nebbiolo. Hand picked and plunged. Whole berry ferment. 16 months in French oak. No fining. 12 months in bottle pre-release. Vegan.

  • Pairs well with friends and pizza, pasta, charcuterie, truffles and mushrooms. Asian food is also a good match, we love it with Thai red curry, chicken or beef.

Adam's Winemaking Notes

The 2020 growing season in the Pyrenees began with welcome winter rain, followed by a warm, dry summer and very little rainfall through ripening. Wind during flowering naturally reduced yields, producing small crops of concentrated fruit. Long, cool nights allowed Nebbiolo to ripen slowly, preserving aromatics, acidity and fine tannin structure.

Nancy's Wine Pairing Notes

Nebbiolo's a favourite in our house. It’s a wine we reach for often. Structured yet generous, savoury yet vibrant. At home, Adam loves it with homemade pizza or a slow-simmered pasta ragu. The acidity and fine tannins cut beautifully through tomato and rich sauces. It’s equally delicious with pulled pork rolls (Adam's favourite) or anything cooked over charcoal, where the smoky notes draw out the wine’s spice and red fruit. I love sharing Nebbiolo at our table. No matter the season, it's a natural choice for long lunches, shared plates and relaxed dinners with friends.
