adam louder and nancy panter, owners of subrosa wine in the vineyard with a glass of subrosa shiraz in hand

We’re thrilled to announce that SubRosa is a five star winery in Halliday Wine Companion 2025.

In Adam’s words, “It’s great to be recognised as one of the top producers in Australia by Halliday”.

It wasn’t easy to gain five stars. In 2019 we were recognised as one of the best new wineries in the Halliday Wine Companion and have been rated 4.5 stars since this inaugural listing. According to Halliday Wine Companion, a five star winery is: Outstanding winery capable of producing wines of very high quality, and did so this year. Will have at least two wines rated at 95 points or above.

There is no room for error when you are a very small winery! We’re proud that our dedication to produce premium cool climate wines from the Grampians and Pyrenees has been recognised by the Halliday team.

SubRosa 2022 Grampians Viognier: 95 points, special value

It spends 12 months in French oak (15% new), which occasionally sets off alarm bells, but in this case, it was astute winemaking. The fruit has more than enough intensity to match, and when added to the texture afforded by the oak, we have a wine that is quite something. This wine is neat, and, yet, this wine is dramatic. It’s soft, powerful, stone-fruited and lengthy, its flourish of spice notes putting on quite a show. Campbell Mattinson

bottle of subrosa grampians shiraz, with a score of 95 pts from Halliday wine companion

SubRosa 2021 Grampians Shiraz: 95 points, special value

The love for this wine springs from the way the fruit presents as sweet while, at the same time, the back half of the wine presents as decisively dry. The drawbridge between the sweet and dry aspects of this wine is a smoky/savoury nuttiness, which itself is complemented by trademark regional pepper. It’s well structured, well balanced, well textured and, plainly, very good. Campbell Mattinson

bottle of Subrosa Nebbiolo with a 92 pt score from halliday wine companion

SubRosa 2022 Pyrenees Nebbiolo: 92 points

Beautifully lightweight with amber hues and papery tannin. On opening, it is a little shy, but it quickly expands with aeration to reveal beautifully nebbiolo-esque fruit that is seemingly light but then transforms to reveal character, savouriness and depth. There is mouth-watering flavour intensity on the close, housed within a light frame, that will have you coming back for more. Hand-picked fruit off the Malakoff Estate Vineyard. Toni Paterson
