Our Guide to Rosé Wine Pairing

Our Guide to Rosé Wine Pairing

I’m passionate about pairing our dry rosé wine with various foods. It’s fascinating to see how its crisp and refreshing qualities can complement and enhance a wide array of dishes. This process of matching the subtle flavours of the wine with different culinary creations is like a journey in taste. I’ve put together a list of inspired pairing ideas that showcase the versatility of our dry rosé.

And remember rosé is not just great in summertime. A few of these ideas are for the cooler months of the year, such as the BBQ pork ribs, a particular favourite of mine.

Lamb Burger: Topped with tzatziki, fresh tomato slices, red onion rings and greens. The richness of the lamb is nicely contrasted by the refreshing acidity of the rosé, essentially cleansing your palate between bites. And the bright taste of the tomatoes pairs well with the deep red fruit flavours of our 2023 Grampians Rosé, made from organic shiraz grapes. Mix up the burger idea and make it in pita pockets like so in this lamb burger recipe by Once upon a chef.

Grilled Prawns: This is probably one of my all-time favourite pairings with our Grampians Rosé. The smoky flavours from the grill and the sweetness of the prawns pair nicely with the rich, red flavours of this rosé, made from organic shiraz grapes. Grilled prawns and viognier are also a delightful match. With it’s refreshing acidity, our 2021 Grampians Viognier cuts through the richness of the smoky grill flavours, for a pleasing contrast.

Goat Cheese Salad: A salad with fresh greens and creamy goat cheese, perhaps with some beets or nuts, would complement the acidity and freshness of the wine.

  • 4

Melon and Prosciutto: The combination of sweet melon and salty prosciutto creates a delightful contrast that is enhanced by the crispness of a dry rosé.

  • 5

Strawberry Spinach Salad: Combine fresh spinach leaves, sliced strawberries, crumbled feta cheese, and toasted almonds. Dress the salad with a slightly caramelised balsamic dressing for a touch of sweetness. The juicy strawberries and tangy feta complement the rosé’s berry notes and acidity, creating a refreshing and vibrant pairing. My kids also loved this salad, without the glass of rosé of course…

Niçoise Salad: This classic French salad, with its combination of olives, tomatoes, green beans, hard-boiled eggs, and tuna, works well with the refreshing qualities of a rosé.

  • 7

Sushi & Sashimi: The light, clean flavours of sushi and sashimi can be beautifully complemented by the delicate fruitiness and acidity of a dry rosé.

  • 8

Quinoa Salad with Avocado and Grilled Vegetables: A colourful salad made with cooked quinoa, diced avocado, and a variety of grilled vegetables like capsicum, zucchini, and eggplant, all tossed in a lemony vinaigrette. The creamy texture of the avocado and the smokiness of the grilled vegetables complement the crispness of the rosé, making for a refreshing and satisfying meal.

Grilled Portobello Mushrooms with Balsamic Glaze: For a vegetarian option, marinate portobello mushrooms in a balsamic vinegar glaze before grilling. The earthy flavours of the mushrooms and the sweetness of the balsamic find a counterpart in the mineral and fruity elements of the rosé, making for a pairing that is both elegant and satisfying.

Margherita Pizza: The simplicity of a Margherita pizza, with its fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil, can be a perfect match for the wine’s crispness.

  • 11

Lemon Olive Oil Cake: A moist, citrusy cake made with olive oil for a tender crumb, topped with a light lemon glaze. The lemon flavours in the cake highlight the citrusy notes of the rosé, and the olive oil’s richness is balanced by the wine’s crispness, offering a harmonious blend of flavours.

Vietnamese Spring Rolls: Fresh spring rolls filled with shrimp, vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs (like mint and coriander), and vegetables wrapped in rice paper offer a light, refreshing bite that mirrors the crispness of the rosé. The herbal and vegetable components accentuate the wine’s fresh and floral notes, while a side of tangy dipping sauce can highlight its acidity.

Barbecue Pork Ribs: Slow-grill pork ribs with a dry rub or a light glaze of barbecue sauce. The smoky, sweet, and slightly spicy flavours of the ribs demand a wine that can stand up to them without overwhelming the palate. A dry rosé, with its crisp finish and hints of red fruit, complements the barbecue flavours while providing a refreshing contrast to the richness of the pork. Here’s a great Pork Ribs with BBQ sauce recipe by Recipetineats. The meat really does fall right off the bone…and the tangy, sweet sauce was a beautiful match with our 2023 Grampians Rosé.

Japanese Chicken Yakitori: These grilled chicken skewers, glazed with a light teriyaki sauce, offer a delightful balance of savoury and sweet. The char from the grill and the subtle sweetness of the sauce can enhance the fruity and floral notes of the rosé, creating a harmonious blend of flavours.

Grilled Salmon with Dill and Lemon: Season salmon fillets with salt, pepper, fresh dill, and lemon slices before grilling. The oily richness of the salmon is balanced by the crisp acidity of the rosé, and the wine’s citrus notes harmonise with the lemon and dill, bringing a lightness to the dish that’s perfect for a summer evening.

Now you have the menu planned, you’ll need a bottle of dry, crisp Rosé. We can help you out there.
