Winter hiking is beautiful in The Grampians. It’s a wonderful way to warm up and build up an appetite. If you have school age kids the Pomonal Tunnel Walking Track is a lot of fun. Within 10 mins you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular views. For toddlers, Venus Baths is an easy track and Fish Falls is also very family friendly.

– Halls Gap Hotel has an indoor and outdoor playground.
– Barney’s in Pomonal has an outdoor area for kids to kick a footy.
– Foragers, for a coffee for you…
– For a treat after a long hike, Mountains of Chocolate is a winner. Our kids love their milkshakes.

Visit Victoria’s largest privately owned zoo, Halls Gap Zoo. Red pandas, lemurs, giraffes, dingoes…a great way to spend a winters day. Make sure to wear your walking shoes, there’s plenty to explore!

WAMA is Australia’s first precinct dedicated to art, science and the environment, opened in 2025.
Explore exhibitions, wander the endemic garden of Grampians native plants, and let the kids loose in the nature play spaces.
A sculpture trail winds through native bushland, where art, landscape and ecology meet. School holiday activities are also available.

TAMA (Textile Art Museum Australia) in Ararat is well worth a visit, with regularly changing exhibitions. It also offers creative art experiences for children in partnership with the NGV during school holidays.

Discover an aboriginal rock art site. The Grampians is home to more than 80% of south-eastern Australia’s aboriginal rock art. Bunjil shelter, near Stawell, is one of the most significant sites, and an easy short walk from the car park makes it highly accessible.

Halls Gap Lakeside is the best kid-friendly accommodation in the region. It’s a holiday park with cabins, caravan spots, fire pits and a wood heated pool (our favourite part!). Kangaroos and emus are likely to be wandering through at any time.
