What does being a Dad mean to you?
I love being a dad. You get to stay young (or try to) and do fun things like ride bikes, motorbikes and build things in the bush. Playing with our kids is the best. I love their imagination and the games they come up with. I enjoy reading with them at night, but I’m not a fan of reading the same book over and over!
I like feeding them meals and snacks, we have special boys only food when Nancy is not home!
Lack of sleep comes with the gig and is not ideal, but we make it work.
Teaching them stuff and seeing them smile is a highlight for sure.
I try to spend as much time as possible with my kids, but it’s not always easy with my work schedule.
What does the ideal Father’s Day for a winemaker Dad look like?
Wake up at home in the bush with our family.
Breakfast with my sidekicks – bacon and eggs with BBQ sauce (I always have to watch the excessive sauce action by the kids!).
We will then spend the day outside in the bush as a family with our dog Lucy.
Lunch will be quick and easy – either a picnic in the bush or toasted ham and cheese sandwiches at home.
Dinner will be a pork dish, my favourite meat. This year I’m keen to have roast pork with crackling and roast veg. I’ll pair it with a glass of our 2021 Grampians Shiraz. Nancy is keen to try this recipe by Recipetineats – Pork Shoulder Roast with Crispy Crackling.
How about as a son?
We’ll have dinner with my Dad the Friday before Father’s Day and then celebrate our birthdays (also in September) together later in the month.
