Nebbiolo is known as the king of grapes in Italy. Its grapes are late to ripen and the wine produced is complex with great age-ability.
A versatile wine, Nebbiolo pairs well with charcuterie, pizza, pasta, duck and BBQ meats. It’s also a wine for all seasons from your go-to summer red to the first red of the evening on a cool winter’s night.
SubRosa’s Nebbiolo wines are rated among the best in Australia by reviewers including James Halliday, Huon Hooke, Peter Bourne and Mike Bennie.
To make great wine, you need great fruit. Adam sources SubRosa’s Nebbiolo grapes from Malakoff Estate, grown by our friends, the John family in the Pyrenees.
The Pyrenees wine region in Victoria, Australia, is renowned for producing high quality red wine.
SubRosa Nebbiolo is made to age.
Review:
SubRosa 2016 Pyrenees Nebbiolo, Mike Bennie, Winefront.
“From the notable Malakoff vineyard, plundered regularly by nebbiolo-enthused winemakers around the traps. Winemaker Adam Louder is his own man, but is now in charge of Mount Langi, but that’s by-the-by as this, his family project, is distinct, and, distinguished in its own right. Style-wise it reminds me a bit of Olek Bondonio’s wines of Barbaresco.
It’s a vibrant, pure-feeling expression, loaded with perfume, lashed with savoury, iron-filing and graphite-tannins, bright in fruit flavour, dusted with attractive spice. There’s also a distinct vibrancy here, a cheery, cherry-kissed feel that’s easy for earlier access, despite there being cool, amaro-like acidity and a sheath of building tannin. It drives assertively then lingers with sappy fruit and minerally feel. It’s such a pleasure. It’s great.”
